Margaret B. Freeman Papers.

The collection includes the research papers, miscellaneous correspondence and photographs of Margaret B. Freeman, Curator Emeritus, The Cloisters. Most of the papers relate to Mrs. Freemans book, The Unicorn Tapestries published in 1976. There are handwritten manuscripts (original text of the book) of Chapters 1,2,3,4,6,7, and 8. The inventory also includes voluminous notes in extraordinary detail on all aspects of the book, such as flora, arms, birds, beasts, fountains, the hunt, and the people involved. References for the Unicorn Book include the following: pre-Christian, Bible, Church Fathers, Encyclopaedists, Bestiaries, poems, and secular. There are also notes on weaving, dyes, and metal thread analysis of the Tapestries. Other boxes include detailed information and photographs on the Saint Martin embroideries, the Jumieges wood panels, and the herb garden of the Cloisters.
